It is therefore recommended that policymakers review appointment requirements to ensure that adequately trained and qualified directorates be appointed to manage eye health in each district. A lack of direction is presented by the lack of adequately trained directorates for eye health. Eye health managers have poorer knowledge and practices of eye health than the HReH. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices were found to be significantly moderately correlated with each other ( p < 0.05). ![]() Practices in eye health were best amongst participants with an undergraduate degree, those aged 30–44 years (aOR = 2.603 p < 0.05), and participants with <5 years of employment (aOR = 26.600 p < 0.01). Managers, who supervise and plan for eye health, were 99% less likely to practice adequately in eye health when compared with HReH (aOR = 0.012 p < 0.01). Participants with a university degree, those aged 30–44 years, and those employed for <5 years showed a good attitude ( p < 0.05) towards their work. HReH showed better knowledge than their managers ( p < 0.01). Most participants had adequate knowledge (81.6%), positive attitudes (69%), and satisfactory practices (73%) in eye health. Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted, and values of p < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. A total of 101 participants completed self-administered, close-ended, Likert-scaled questionnaires anonymously. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 11 districts of a South African province. This study seeks to assess the levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices on eye health amongst Human Resources for eye health (HReH) and their managers, as no study has assessed this previously. These do meet the standard required by the National Department of Health. In South Africa, primary eye care is largely challenged in its organisational structure, availability of human and other resources, and clinical competency. All of these patients represent very rare instances of genetic conditions with clinical features that can be modified by FXS and vice versa. Finally, a maternally inherited 2p25.3 deletion associated with a decreased level of the MYT1L transcript, only in the patient, was observed in a 33-year-old FXS male with severe seizures compared to his mother and two sex- and age-matched controls. The next double diagnosis had never been reported before: through exome sequencing, a girl with FXS who was of 7 years of age with macrocephaly and severe psychomotor delay was found to carry a de novo variant in the PPP2R5D gene. This represents the second case in which both conditions coexist in a 5-year-old boy, inherited from his heterozygous mother. The co-occurrence of DMD and FXS has been reported only once in a young boy, while in an independent family two affected boys were described, the elder diagnosed with FXS and the younger with DMD. Here, we describe three independent cases of FXS co-segregation with three different genetic conditions, consisting of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), PPP2R5D-related neurodevelopmental disorder, and 2p25.3 deletion. The co-occurrence of FXS with other genetic disorders has only been occasionally reported. The six-item instrument to measure perceived importance of TOC activities was valid and reliable.įragile X syndrome (FXS) is the most common form of inherited intellectual disability and autism caused by the instability of a CGG trinucleotide repeat in exon 1 of the FMR1 gene. Conclusions: A large communication gap existed for community pharmacists to receive patient discharge information. The Cronbach’s alpha for these six items was 0.941, indicating high reliability. For the six-item measurement of perceived importance, one component was yielded and all items loaded on the component with high values, which confirmed construct validity. There were 76 cases in which the discharged patients experienced either a prescription- or medication-related problem. ![]() The majority of community pharmacists estimated that they learned of a patient’s discharge on less than 10% of the occasions. Results: The response rate was 37% ( n = 118). Principal component analysis and reliability analysis for the six-item instrument were performed to assess construct validity and Cronbach’s alpha, respectively. The items were piloted to examine face validity before dissemination to 310 community pharmacists. Methods: Survey items were developed, including a six-item instrument to capture perceived importance of TOC activities. Objectives: (1) To describe the experiences of community pharmacists in transitions of care (TOC) from hospital to home in a Midwestern metropolis and (2) to develop instruments to measure perceived importance of TOC activities. ![]()
